About Leather

All of our leather goods are crafted from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather (veg-tan leather), a premium and durable material made from genuine animal hides. This leather is tanned using natural tannins derived from plant sources such as tree bark, leaves, and fruits, making it a more eco-friendly alternative to chrome tanning, which relies on harsh chemicals.

Sustainable & Ethical Sourcing
No animals are killed specifically for their skin. The hides used in our products come from the food industry, meaning leather is a byproduct, not the primary reason for slaughter. This ensures a more responsible and sustainable use of resources. Additionally, most of the leather we use comes from tanneries that are part of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, an organization dedicated to preserving the tradition and sustainability of vegetable-tanned leather. Natural Characteristics & Aging
Because vegetable tanning preserves the unique traits of each hide, no two pieces of leather are exactly alike. Just like human skin, cowhide varies in texture and appearance, meaning your leather product may feature natural markings such as dark spots, bug bite scars, scratches, wrinkles, or slight color variations. These are not defects but rather signs of authenticity that enhance the leather’s character. Over time, vegetable-tanned leather will develop a rich patina, becoming softer and deepening in color as it naturally ages with use.

Leather Thickness & Availability
Leather thickness varies depending on the type and batch, which means some leathers may only be suitable for the exterior or interior of a product. Since leather stock changes periodically, availability, thickness, and texture may differ from time to time.
